Tree Farm Staff
We are hiring a dependable, self-motivated team member to help with day-to-day operations at our tree farm. This position focuses on hands-on plant care and keeping farm production moving forward. You will receive daily or weekly tasks from the farm manager and will be expected to take ownership of your work, track your progress, and communicate completion. Responsibilities - Pruning trees and shrubs - Weeding and general plant maintenance - Staking and training young trees - Moving plants and materials as needed - Maintaining plant health and production areas - Reporting progress to the farm manager - Occasionally leading small crews to complete assigned projects (and supervising day-to-day duties during parts of the winter) Qualifications - Reliable and able to work independently - Comfortable working outdoors in all typical Michigan weather - Able to lift and move plants and materials - Good communication and attention to detail - Willingness to take responsibility for assigned tasks and see them through Prior experience in landscaping, agriculture, or gardening is helpful but not required - we are willing to train the right person.
Garden Sales Associate and Cashier
Position Summary The Garden Sales Associate and Cashier at our high-end garden center provides exceptional customer service while efficiently handling retail transactions. This role serves as the initial as well as the final point of contact for customers, ensuring a welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable checkout experience that reflects the premium quality of the garden center's products and brand. Key Responsibilities Customer Service •Utilize the "Six Steps to the Perfect Purchase" with each customer that you will learn during training. Greet every customer warmly and provide a friendly, upscale checkout experience. • Answer basic questions about products, pricing, promotions, and store services. • Direct customers to appropriate staff members for detailed horticultural advice. • Assist customers with carry-out, loading vehicles, and finding items to purchase both indoors and outdoors. Point-of-Sale Operations • Accurately process purchases, returns, exchanges, and special orders using the POS system. • Handle cash, credit cards, gift cards, and digital payments responsibly. • Maintain an organized and efficient checkout area that reflects the garden center's high- end presentation standards. Retail Support • Bag items carefully, ensuring delicate plants and garden décor are handled properly.. • Support product labeling when needed. Customer Experience • Promote seasonal events, workshops, and classes. • Resolve minor customer concerns with professionalism and escalate issues when necessary. • Create a pleasant closing experience that encourages repeat visits. Qualifications Preferred • Previous retail or customer service sales experience • Basic cash handling and computer skills. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. • Interest in plants, gardening, or outdoor living products. • Familiarity with POS systems. Garden Center Loader Operator & Customer Service (18+)
Harder & Warner Boutique Garden has openings for someone who loves to work outdoors and spend time helping customers in a fast-paced work environment. This person would be responsible for helping take care of our 14-acre nursery grounds by operating a skid loader to load mulch and plants into customers vehicles, unloading plant material off semi-trucks, heavy lifting, general nursery upkeep and, most importantly, helping customers. Day to day duties include loading mulch, moving trees with the loader, helping pack up trucks that are going to job sites, unloading semi-trucks, heavy lifting of plants/statues/fountains, and helping customers find the plants they are looking for. The candidate selected for this position should be able to do daily heavy lifting and have a happy attitude. Loader operating skills are a plus but not a must. Seeking mechanic with in depth understanding of diesel engines, gas engines, hydraulic and electrical systems. Weekly overtime year round. Diesel Technician Mechanic Job Duties: Obtain and keep current a Class A Commercial Drivers License Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts. Keep equipment available for use by completing regular, preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures. Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, and replacing systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units. Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems. Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards. Conducting field visits in cases of emergencies or breakdowns Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs. Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. Communicate with other team members in Landscape and Maintenance divisions on proper usage of equipment Contain costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options. Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt. Enhance maintenance departments and organization and reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
